Bitness of PNG image after VOI lUT applied?

#1 Post by oklipilin »

Hello guys,

As far as I know one of purposes we use voi lut is to adjust images with bitness more than 8bit to the image that can be displayed "correctly" and users can view all required details of image.

So, I have a question, is it possible that after applying voi lut we will have still 16bit image?
And if yes, does it make sense?

Regards,
Alexey

Hi,

there is no rule that limits the output of a VOI LUT to 8 bits. You must ensure yourself that you scale the output range to the available input range of your display (adapter). Also I think there are displays that accept for example 10 bit input (P.S: But I dont know why it makes sense;).

Best,
Michael

I see..
So, if I want to downscale my image to 8bit Display I need to use P-LUT stage for this?
