What tools to build on windows?

#1 Post by JustSomeGuy »

What tools do I need to make dcmtk on windows?
I installed cmake and have Microsoft Visual studio, but I don't see a project file in the source tree....
Uhmm... maybe gcc?

Please read and follow the instructions in the INSTALL file (in case you've never used CMake before).

Does this look like a normal result from cmake configure?
Is there something I should select other the that three selections that have been selected for me?

I'm only trying to get findscu, movescu, getscu to run... Not sure I need libtiff, png etc...

:?

I'm batch building in Visual Studio as I write this post... Fingers Crossed this is all I need to do...
mac os x seemed so much easier.
./configure
make
sudo make install

Presto.. but windows...

On Windows, it's usually: Configure, Generate, Build All.

For findscu, movescu, getscu, you don't need any of the external libraries (well, OpenSSL if you want to use TLS).

The most important configuration options are explained in the INSTALL file.
More details can be found in the support Wiki (use this page for the latest DCMTK snapshot).

Hope this helps to get started...

I didn't see a build all button, but that makes sense because I needed MS Visual Studio.
Maybe if I had succeeded in getting gcc installed on windows things might have been easier.
Would cygwin have helped?

That's exactly what I thought too.

Yes thanks for the link.

I didn't see a build all button, but that makes sense because I needed MS Visual Studio.
The following excerpt is from DCMTK's INSTALL file:

Code: Select all

Having performed these steps, the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE can be started,
DCMTK's workspace file can be opened, and one or more of DCMTK's subprojects
can be built. In case you want to build all libraries and applications, mark
the "ALL_BUILD" subproject and build it.
Maybe if I had succeeded in getting gcc installed on windows things might have been easier.
Would cygwin have helped?
This depends. For a typical Windows user, gcc would be a nightmare (as the CMake and VisualStudio GUI are probably for a typical Unix user ;-).
It helped me finish!
Congratulations!

Best,
Michael
