Pixel Data out of DICOMDIR files

#1 Post by steini »

Hi,

I have the following problem:
I want to generate a volume dataset from a DICOMDIR file. I can access the files in the DICOMDIR, but they do not contain a DCM_PixelData entry, when I take a look into the output of printing the records. Are the pixel data encoded differently from the pixel data in "normal" dcm files ?

Best regards
Marc

DICOMDIRs don't contain pixel data. Actually a few "variants" (application profiles) do, but those are only icon images. If you want to build a volume dataset, you have to do that from the image files referenced in the DICOMDIR.

yes, but I can access the files via the DcmRecords and the ReferencedFileID tag.
I think my problem is, that the PixelData is encoded in JPEG Lossless, thus i have to transform the data in the way that it contains RAW pixel information ?

Yes of course. Look at dcmdjpeg.cc to learn how to do this with DCMTK.
