how to use cmake lists and makefile in windows xp vc++ 6.0

hello everybody,
i implemented successfully dcmtk but with the help of visual c++6.0, not by using cmake lists.txt.. i dont know how to use cmake lists for designing of all projects. somebody suggest me how to use them. and suggest me some small application which i can able to implement in one or two months.. i am an mtech student, i am doing project on dicom applications.
