Removing files from Wlmscpfs

#1 Post by martinrame »

Hi, I'm using Wlmscpfs as a WorkList Server, it works pretty well.

One problem we found is the .wl files keeps adding in the server, and we have to delete them manually after a couple of days.

Is there a way to notify the Worklist Server that a study has been completed?. I mean, the modality notify the WL that the study was made.

What is the "standard" way to solve this?.

Thanks in advance,
Leonardo.

Hi Leonardo,

the modality worklist service has no way for telling the worklist server that a job from the worklist is completed. However, this is done with the DICOM MPPS service which serves as the "back channel" for worklist.

The MPPS (Modality Performed Procedure Step, see part 4 of the standard for description) service is not available in the public and free part of the DCMTK but is offered as a commercial add-on.

Best regards,
Michael

Thanks Michael, for now we'll let our RIS manage this functionality. In the future we have to look at each modality to know if them have MPPS service.

Actually this is something the RIS should do. Even in the presence of DICOM MPPS, worklist entries should never disappear "automatically". It often happens that the technician at the modality chooses the wrong patient and presses the "start" button; if now the worklist entry would disappear, it would have to be re-scheduled at the RIS which is a major hassle. So all systems I know require some operator on the RIS to confirm that a study is completed, which then causes the worklist entry to be removed. This can be automated only if report reading is also done over the RIS. Once a report has been created you can be fairly certain that the images for that report have been generated, so you can remove the modality worklist entry.
