dcmdump won't run on XP with SP2 ?

#1 Post by dave »

Trying to track down an error when using dcmdump on XP with SP2.

We have been using dcmdump v3.5.3 on Win2K with SP4 with no problem but get the error message: "Program too big to fit in memory" on XP. Both machines have 1G of memory. Could be something on our end but as far as I can tell, there aren't any especially large applications running and memory usage seems to be fairly low. Do we need a newer version of dcmdump to use on XP?

Strange error message. Does it work if you use option --load-short (-M)?

Ok. The debug version works as expected. The release version gives the error as above. FWIW, the "Program too big to fit in memory" error is all over the web. Folks have had it in many situations, all seemingly related to XP and SP2.

My apologies to those if this offends, but damn, I hate Microsoft.

Switch off optimizations. It must help.

I am using the DCMTK 3.5.4 release build on XP SP2 with no problems whatsoever. Must be a problem related to some specific driver, service or other system component that my computer fortunately does not seem to use...

The problem may be not in DCMTK at all.
MS Visual C++ optimization sometimes does not wok in a proper way.
I've got a project (not using DCMTK) which release version works only if optimization is swicthed off (/Od/GZ keys).

Seems that MS Visual C++ especially does not "like" STL :)
