cant build dcmtk

hi all
i have unziped dcmtk 3.5.3
i want to build it with microsoft visual studio.net 2002
as soon as i run the dcmtk.dsw it is not working
my microsoft visual studio is not responding when i look at the windows task manager ?
waht can i do

Here's an excerpt from the INSTALL file:

Known problems:

1. The project files shipped with the toolkit cannot be used with Microsoft
   Visual C++ .NET (aka Visual Studio 7.x).  You need to create new files with
   CMake as described below.  We recommend to delete all ".dsp" and ".dsw"
   files before starting CMake.

The .dsp and .dsw files are meant to be used with MS Visual C++ 6.0 only. You can either install MSVC++ 6.0 or you use CMake to generate new project files for Visual Studio 7.x.

where can i find this explanation regarding 'known problems'.
i need the description how it axplaines how to create new files with cmake

or do i need to compile all the components of dcmtk with cmake

Your life would probably be easier if you would read the installation instructions, and these are present in a text file named "INSTALL" in the DCMTK source code package.
