Presentation Context ID

#1 Post by Aparajita »

Dear Sirs,

I am new to DCMTK ,I have gone through the DCMTK library somehow and the documentation too .
Here my doubt is

If we want to add an new presentation context to our application, how we can decide the presentation Context ID for the particular Presentation context? Is there any documentation list of Presentation context ID or we have to randomly genrate this ID.

Kindly help.

Thank you
Aparajita

According to DICOM part 8, each proposed presentation context must have a unique presentation context ID, which are odd integers from 1-255.

No, as Jörg wrote, only the odd numbers, i.e. 1,3,5,... ;)

Yes Michael,I understood that it will be an odd number.

My intention to ask that is,whether there is a fixed Presentation context ID value to the particular Presentation context ,or we can choose any random odd value.

You can freely choose these numbers. However it is common (and other applications may have a problem if you dont do that) to start with 1 and then continue counting the next odd number up, 3,5,7...

Thank You Michael,

Going by your information , I tried to add one more presentation context (C-GET SCU) to the application, here I gave presentation context ID as 3 .
But when the command was applied to the JDICOM server from the application, got the error as "No valid Presentation Context ID"

Kindly guide through.

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

3 is a valid Presentation Context ID .... Maybe the error message is misleading or that is a server bug -- not possible to diagnose that from here.
