All attributes in the response message are coerced to "Unknown Value Representation" (UN). This could either be a problem of the server or a problem with the DICOM data dictionary on the client side. Check FAQ #17 which describes a different problem related to the same issue.

Are you trying to query the CONQUEST server?
If so, then you should disable the Jpeg compression option.
I know this bug for a while and tried to find out what is wrong but did not succeed yet. I can query CONQUEST with JDICOM and the UCDMC library without any problems, but OFFIS' findSCU fails in reading the value presentations when the JPEG compression option in CONQUEST is turned on. The strange thing is, that when using the -X option to save the query results into files, the DcmDump utility fails to read these files correctly as well, but JDICOM and the UCDCM read them without problems.

I still don't know if it is a bug in CONQUEST or FindSCU.

regards,
Andreas

Thank you andreas for your answer.
After reset the jpg kompression on my conquestserver
findscu works well.with the new conquestserver 1.48 you
can use the conquestkompression and not the offiskompression,
than you can recieve kompressed images too.
Thank you for your help
with best regards
Werner
