Encoding type in Sequences.

#1 Post by Mandeep Dang »

Is there a way to find out the encoding type of a sequence i.e wether the length of a sequence is of undefined type or explicit type, i have read the standard and it states that both types are supported by the standard and an implementator may choose any of the two. Is there an API call in the library that can get the encoding type that is used for sequences in a given file.

Thanks.

Since the sequence (and item) encoding may change from attribute to attribute between finite and undefined length encoding, there is no API call that would provide a single reply for a complete dataset - this is simply not possible. For each sequence element you can simply retrieve the encoded length field, which will be either 0xFFFFFFFF (undefined length) or finite.
