imagectn scalability

#1 Post by cbrack »

First, thanks for making the debian packagaes for us linux users.

Wanted to know how scalable is the size of the imagectn db? Has anyone run into size limitations after changing the quota to something greater than 1024MB?

Trying to setup a simple linux based PACS for an opthomologist and am experimenting between dcmtk and the CTN software from malinkrot. We've seen good results with CTN and the mysql db in linux, but like the added benifits with the well-maintained dcmtk.

thanks,
cbrack

We know that some DCMTK users increased the limits for both the maximum number of studies and the maximum number of bytes per study (see hard-coded limits in "imagedb.h") - it seems to work. However, we usually do not recommend to do this since the "imagectn" uses a plain index file (no database) that has to be scanned for each query.

As a background information: the "imagectn" has been developed for a public demonstration back in 1993. Since the number of images/studies used for this demonstration was limited the index file was an adequate solution. For a "real" application of the query retrieve service we would also prefer a "real" database.
